Creating Interactive Canvas Assignments using H5P

Before you begin this tutorial:

  • You must be accepted to be part of the UWM H5P pilot. If you are interested in being included in the H5P pilot, please
  • You must have received confirmation that H5P has been added to your course site.
  • You must have created an H5P account and a link to H5P authoring tools in your Canvas course site using these instructions: http://cetl-uwm.screenstepslive.com/s/13190/m/49120/l/1078128-h5p

In this tutorial you will learn how to access the H5P authoring tools, locate tutorial that will help you create H5P activities, and link activities to Canvas Assignments in order for your students to be graded on completion of these activities.

It is important to understand that H5P activities should not be used as the primary means to assess student learning. Instead, H5P activities can be used to help students feel more engaged with course content. H5P activities provide instant feedback to students, allowing students to self-assess comprehension and understanding. For these reasons, graded H5P activities should be used as low-stakes assessments, comprising a smaller percentage of the final course grade.
