Creating a screen capture using the My Media Screen Recorder tool in D2L's Discussion area

Before you begin:

  • IMPORTANT!  You MUST installed a recent version of Java/Flash on your computer.  If you are using a Mac, please see this tutorial: http://uwmltc.org/?p=1061.  If you are using a PC, please see this tutorial: http://uwmltc.org/?p=10533.
  • IMPORTANT!  You MUST use Mozilla Firefox as your browser.  It is also highly recommended that you update Firefox to the most recent version.  If you do not have Firefox or if you do not have the current version, you can download it here: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
  • It is highly recommended that you use microphone headset for recording your voice. This will assure that the microphone remains at a fixed distance, creating a consistent volume level throughout the recording process. We suggest the Logitech® Stereo Headset H390: http://bit.ly/p670G3 However, any noise-canceling, USB-connected microphone headset should suffice.
  • If you plan to create a narrated PowerPoint presentation, you should have the completed PowerPoint presentation open and ready.
  • Your verbal presentations should be as brief as possible.  They should not exceed 20 minutes. If you plan a lengthy presentation, you should record the presentation in shorter sections.
  • It is best to create a script to use when recording your presentation.
  • You must have access to the My Media tool.  If you do not see your course under the [MCStdnt] role (see Step #1 - Option #2), your instructor has not provided access to the tool and you should contact them for assistance.

This is a lengthy and fairly complicated tutorial, you may wish to print the PDF version located here: https://db.tt/PkAPhs0e
